    • Lawrence Hobart McCreery was born in the township of Jersey, Steuben Co., NY April 1, 1832 and died at his home in Bunker Hill Aug 10, 1913, aged 81 years, 9 months and 10 days. When 4 years old, he came to Michigan with his parents. After about a year they moved to Canada where they resided two years then returned
      to Michigan which since that time has been his home. Nov 12, 1854 he was united in marriage to Annice Ann Aldrich. Five children were born to them, Fred, residing in the old home, Mrs. G. E. Wainwright of Jackson, Mrs. D. E. Smith and Mrs. W. W. Ford of Henrietta and Arthur of Rives Township and one sister, Mrs. P. A.
      Dunn of Ann Arbor and a host of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. When a young man he served some time on the canal and great lakes. In Oct 1863, he enlisted in Company H, First Michigan Engineers and Mechanics, serving until the close of the war when he was honorably discharged having the rank of first duty sergeant. He has been a christian since early manhood and belonged to the first U. B. church of Bunker Hill for many years. He died in the triumph of faith surround by his wife and children. The funeral services were held from the first U. B. church August 12, conducted by Rev. C. W. Gurrier assisted by Rev. McConell of Leslie, and remains placed in the Fitchburg cemetery.

      Lawrence served with Co H, Ist Mich Engineers and Mechanics as a Sargeant.
