GREENTOP, Oct. 10.--Died at Muscogee [sic], Indian territory, John W. Walker, on Friday of last week, at 9 o'clock[.] He was formerly of this place. His death was a sad one. He was a fireman on the Missouri & Pacific Ry. On Thursday morning about 9 o'clock, Mr. Walker and an Engineer were aboard of the engine, and were pulling out from Muscogee [sic]. Some one had left the switch open and the engine was thrown from the track. Mr. Walker and theengineer [sic] jumped from the engine into a ditch and the engine turned over on them. The engineer was instantly crushed to death, and Mr. Walker was under the engine about two hours before they could succeed in getting him out. His legs were both broken and mashed. He lived till Friday morning. His remains were brought to Queen City, on Sunday last for burial. He leaves a wife. He was a son of John Walker living three miles east of this place, and a member of Odd Fellows, and was buried by the Odd Fellows of Greentop, where he was a member. The lodge turned out and when it reached Queen City the Greentop lodge and Glenwood lodge of Odd Fellows united at the Masonic Hall and marched in procession in full regalia to the Queen city cemetery, a distance of about two miles, where the solemn and impressive odd fellowship burial services were performed. The deceased was 25 years of age. He was held in much esteem by his friends in this and Queen City community. His loss is deeply felt[.] The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church, at Queen city and were conducted by Rev. Davis pastor of the Christian church.
