Mrs. Elizabeth E. Berry West
The news of the demise of our only sister, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Berry West, which reached us last week brought sadness and grief to all of her relatives and friends in this section.
She passed away at her home in Fay, Oklahoma, Jan 17, 1914. Mrs. West came to this section in the year 1879 with her husband and settled on a homestead on section 2, Mentor Township, on the west banks of the Sturgeon River near what is called State Road Crossing. Two years later a post office was established called Diver post office, her husband W. P. West became its postmaster.
Mrs. West and her husband were among the earliest settlers in this part of Cheboygan County, and was known by all the pioneers in this section. A few years later her family went west settling in Oklahoma. She is survived by a husband and ten children. J. E. West of Ohioville, is the only son in this section and J. A. Berry of Indian River the only brother of a family of four children. She was a member of the Christian church and was very liberal in her views. She was a woman universally liked by all who knew her. She spent her whole life to the welfare and comfort of her family - she was a willing worker and always ready to do some kind act to make others happy.
Years pass by; her time on earth had come.
She was silently followed to her last resting place by a large circle of relatives and friends to the cemetery at Fay, Oklahoma, and there laid in the bosom of the earth, one whose whole life was pure and simple. She has entered upon that triumphant life which is more enjoyable than earthly life.
