Sadao "Sam" Tachibana, 88, of Mililani, Oahu, formerly of Pepeekeo, died March 7 at home. Born in Lanai City, Lanai, he was a retired auto mechanic for Orchid Isle Auto Center, member of Kinoole Baptist Church and a U.S. Army World War II veteran of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Company H, 2nd Battalion. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Private urn committal at a later date. Casual attire; no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Gail Tachibana of Honolulu and Merle (Michael) Yusi of Mililani, Oahu; sisters, Doris Kanemitsu of Kaunakakai, Molokai, Betsy (Larry) Irei of Honolulu and Dorothy English of California; brother, Walter (Sandra) Matsumoto of Makakilo, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She and Art were still at Henry and Marie's place in Bigfork when she had a stroke. After a short time, Art left in his car to return home temporarily to Granby, MO when he was involved in an automobile accident on the River Road near Grand Rapids, MN. He was hospitalized and laid up for a few days, after which he took a bus home and returned to pick up Clara.
